Dodital Trek from Yuvashakthi - April, May 2009

The trek for Dodital commences from Kalyani in Uttarkashi, which can be approached by bus.
Kalyani to Agoda (2,286 m) is a gradual climb through woods, fields and villages along a mule track. The 16-km stretch to Dodital from Agoda comprises a trek that goes up gradually through luxurious woodlands and striking rocky landscapes.

Dodital lake ( 3980 m) is the source of the river Asi Ganga that merges with the river Bhagirathi near Gangotri. For a fine view of the magnificent Bandarpoonch peak (6387m), you need to climb up a little from the lake. A further climb also leads to Hanumanchatti, the roadhead to Yamunotri, through the Aineha pass (3667m). This route offers some of the best views of the Himalaya.

Day-wise Programme:
Day 01 : Dep. for New Delhi. Overnight train journey.
Day 02 : Arr. Delhi and proceed to Rishikesh for night halt.
Day 03 : Rishikesh - Kalyani by bus. Kalyani is the base camp for this trek. Reach Kalyani in the evening. Night halt at Kalyani.
Day 04 : Day free for acclimatization walk and a basic introduction to activities. Night halt at Kalyani.
Day 05 : Kalyani to Bewara. (8 Kms.) The first five kms. stretch is a steep climb through a thick forest that leads to Agoda (2280m), a village situated amidst terraced fields. We trek further for an hour and reach Bewara and camp at an isolated camping ground that overlooks the terraced fields and the valley.
Day 06 : Bewara to Manzi. (6 Kms.) After a steep climb for a while, through a thick forest with a fine population of the Monal, or the Himalayan peacock, we reach a beautiful camp sight at Manzi.
Day 07 : Manzi to Dodital. (5 Kms.) The final leg of the trek is a gentle climb upto Dodital. We prefer to camp besides this beautiful lake.
Day 08 : Dodital to Dorwatop and back. (10 Kms.) One of the most memorable climbs can be experienced on this day when we ascend upto Dorwatop to have enchanting glimpses of Bandarpoonch peak (6387m). Return to Dodital for night halt.

Day 10 : Bewara to Kalayani (8 Kms.) and proceed to Rishikesh for night halt.
