Two days trek to Tadiyandmole & Chalwara falls, Coorg - 6th-7th June 2009

About the place:
TADIYANDAMOL is the highest mountain in Coorg (Mercara) Dist (1750 Mtrs. MSL). This place is around 250 Kms from Bangalore - via Virajpet. The climb to this mountain is gradient passing through grassland. If you are the type who likes to mingle with nature, see the snow-like mist romance with mountain slopes, feel the tingle of the cool and gentle breeze, watch the leaves flutter in dance-like movements, hear the sounds of chirping birds fill the air, and then Coorg is the place for you. Kodagu is noted for its scenic beauty. Hiking, cross-country, or simply motoring down mountain trails in Coorg, the visitor encounters panoramic views of the morning mist rolling down thickly wooded hill slopes and the undulating paddy fields and neat rows of coffee bushes resplendent under the blue skies. Now a flourishing agricultural center, Kodagu produces cash crops of coffee, rice, orange, pepper and cardamom. With its misty mountains and dense forests, Coorg seemed like a little corner of England to the British. They left behind a legacy, which is still an important source of national wealth. The well laid coffee plantations in Coorg account for almost half of Karnataka's coffee production. And Karnataka continues to be India's largest producer of coffee. Other reminders of the colonial past are the spacious estate bungalows, many of which still have British names and the meandering roads that wind through the district

Aquasports Camp at Karwar, Karnataka - 23rd - 24th May 2009

About the place:
karwar is the district & the taluka head quarters of Uttara Kannada, (519 km north-west of Bangalore). Karwar, is a good place to enjoy the thrills of sun, sea and sand & thus becomes an ideal place to relax.

Karwar is a small town containing relatively undiscovered beaches and placed snugly on the coast. It's a calming sight anywhere, but in Karwar the sunrise is especially beautiful for the topography it unveils. On one side of the road is the dim outline of the narrow coast hugging the sea, while the dark shapes of the Western Ghats loom across the other. Miraculously straddling both mountain and sea, Karwar is a nondescript little town perched in between, seemingly oblivious to its own overwhelming beauty.
Since it is sandwiched between the sea on one side and Western Ghats on the other, Karwar is rich in flora and fauna. The monsoons last long and it rains heavily, the climate and sea beaches are similar to Goa, but is ignored in terms of tourism.

The most popular attractions of Karwar are its palm-fringed beaches. Koodi Bagh beach at the exact point where the Kali river flows into the sea, and the Kaju Bagh beach, brims with a cardinal atmosphere with the local gentry congregating every evening.Kayaking:Kayaking is the use of a kayak for moving across water. Kayaking is generally differentiated from canoeing by the sitting position of the paddler and the number of blades on the paddle. Almost all kayaks have closed decks, however, there are many sit-on-top kayaks, and these boats are growing in

Canoeing: Canoeing is the activity of paddling a canoe for the purpose of recreation (also called a float trip), sport, or transportation. It usually refers exclusively to using a paddle to propel a canoe with only human muscle power. A kayak is propelled using a paddle with two blades where the paddler sits with their legs mostly extended in front of them, whereas canoes are propelled using single- or double-bladed paddles where the paddler - a "canoeist" or "canoer"- is kneeling or sitting on seat or thwart, with their knees bent and their legs more or less beneath them.
Windsurfing: Windsurfing, or sailboarding, is a surface water sport using a windsurf board, also commonly called a sailboard, usually two to five meters long and powered by wind pushing a single sail. The rig is connected to the board by a free-rotating flexible joint called the Universal Joint (U-Joint). Unlike a rudder-steered sailboat, a windsurfer is steered by the tilting and rotating of the mast and sail as well as tilting and carving the board.

Windsurfing: option is available only for people with 2 days booking, so we MIGHT only surf

board without sail. Coracle: Oval in shape and very similar to half a walnut shell, the structure is made of a framework of split and interwoven willow rods, tied with willow bark. The outer layer was originally an animal skin such as horse or bullock hide (corium), with a thin layer of tar to make it fully water proof - today replaced by tarred calico or canvas, or simply fibreglass. The structure has a keel-less, flat bottom to evenly spread the weight of the boat and its load across the structure and to reduce the required depth of water - often to only a few inches, making it ideal for use on rivers.

Banana Boat: A banana boat, often referred to simply as a banana, is an unpowered recreational boat designed to be pulled by a larger boat. Riders sit astride a large tube which is supported by two smaller tubes which provide balance and footrests, allowing them to experience some of the thrill of moving fast and close to the water much more easily and safely than by water-skiing or surfing and they are therefore a popular ride for children. Many large motor yachts or luxury yachts have a banana as one of their onboard "toys", but any powered boat can pull a banana, and they are sometimes available as a commercial ride at holiday resorts. Most models seat between three and ten people. Double models with two seating tubes side by side are available. Banana boats are often yellow and are sometimes actually moulded into the shape of a banana.

Trek to the highest mountain peak in Karnataka Mullayanagiri- Bababuddhangiri-Kemangundi - 16 -17th May 2009

About Place:
275 Kms from Bengaluru, near Chickmagalur, Bababudangiri hills are heaven on earth in the Western Ghats . Luxuriant green grass, moss infested trees, sparkling waterfalls, rugged hills and pure air seems generously God gifted. The dense mist reduces the visibility to just a few meters. The wind almost blows you off the hill. Sometimes it appears as if the mountain has conspired with the rain and the wind and is trying to throw away the unwelcome intruders. Also the daytime temperature drastically falls from 34 C to below 10 C by nightfall.

There are very exceptional and challenging treks between Mullayanagiri, Bababudangiri and Kemmangundi. The trek from Kaimara to Mullayanagiri is steep. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in South India standing at 1919 m. The 15 Kms trek along the ridges of the steep mountains crosses the Attigundi waterfall and concludes at Bababudangiri. Rock Climbing & Rappelling at Ramnagaram, near Bangalore - 16th May 2009

About Ramanagaram:
RAMANAGARAM situated in a valley surrounded by (48 km from Bangalore) rocky hillocks is sub-divisional headquarters from 1884. It became a taluk headquarters in 1928, and the place was named Ramanagaram in 1949 . It is the biggest cocoon marketing centre now. It is spread on either banks of the Arkavati and the old bridge connecting the town was built by Sir Barry Close, the Resident at the Royal Court of Mysore. Hence, the place was named as Closept, as mentioned in a Persian as well as Kannada record, erected by Diwan Purnaiah in 1800. The township was also founded around the same time for greater security of the high road, which then passed through a wild forest route.
But the present name, of Ramanagaram finds its origin from the once existed village Ramagiri below the Ramadevarabetta. The present town has an Agrahara on the left bank of the Arkavati with a temple of Arkeshwara built in later Vijayanagara style. The temple is said to have been renovated by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. It is facing west and has a Garbhagriha, a spacious Navaranga and has an inner Prakara. The Linga was reinstalled about four years ago. Night Trek to Makkalidurga near Bangalore - 8th May 2009

About the Place:
Makkalidurga is 45kms away from Bengaluru (Bangalore) after Dodda Ballapur. Makkalidurga, also known as Gunjur Hill, is situated at Makalidurga village, 12 km from Ghati Subramanya. On the top is a magazine house called as Maddinanave built out of brick and mortar with an oval shaped window-like opening. A succession of dilapidated fort walls and a temple housing the statue of Linga and Nandi tells the tale of Sage Markandeya performing penance here for a long time.

Though the ascent is tedious, the summit offers inquisitive 360° landscape views. The jabbing dry grass is an irritant in dry months and is challenging to discover the grass-covered route during the rains. Expect high winds and fog on the hilltop. The awesome sight of the train chugging at the foothills seems straight out of a children’s storybook.
